Zydeco Superstar, Fan Favorite C.J. Chenier Returning to 5th Annual Zydeco Festival

Omaha, Neb. – Midtown Crossing’s crowd-pleasing Zydeco Festival, the only festival of its kind in the region, is embracing – and enhancing – the five F’s in its fifth year:

  • Foot-stomping & feel-good: Eternally upbeat Zydeco music incorporates blues, R&B, soul, reggae and rock
  • Fan Favorite C.J. Chenier returning by popular demand
  • Food: Creole and Cajun inspired, served up by Midtown Crossing restaurants
  • Free admission, as always
  • Family- and dog-friendly

The Zydeco Festival returns to the Pavilion at Turner Park on Saturday, June 22, from 3:00 – 10:00 p.m. with live music by:

  • Headliner C.J. Chenier, a crowd favorite in 2016;
    • C.J. Chenier is the son of the late, great King of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier. C.J. has been playing since he was a teenager – influenced by an eclectic mix of funk, soul, jazz and Motown. A legend in his own right, C.J. has received national attention on CNN, VH-1 and in Entertainment Weekly, and toured with Paul Simon
  • Opening act and local zydeco band The Prairie Gators (check them out on YouTube); and
  • Supporting act Terry & the Zydeco Bad Boys.

This year’s festival, held during the College World Series, is expected to draw approximately 8,000 people throughout the day. Midtown Crossing restaurants will be on location offering cold drinks and “zydeco-themed” food, past highlights of which have included beignets, crawfish and crawfish tacos, alligator on a stick, chicken and waffles, and Abita beer. Restaurants on the park are accepting outdoor patio reservations.
