Did you know?
It’s only natural that Wohlner’s Neighborhood Grocery & Deli would have a special affinity for the Reuben sandwich. They have a lot in common. Both were born in midtown Omaha –less than a mile apart – and both are rapidly approaching their centennials.(Albert Wohlner opened his store in 1918. Reuben Kulakofsky conjured his name sake sandwich a mere seven years later at the Blackstone Hotel.)
Mike Schwartz, Wohlner’s third generation owner, and his team have elevated the local favorite with local flair. Wohlner’s sources its succulent, corned beef from Nebraska ranchers and puts the perfect crisp on rye bread from Omaha’s own Rotella’s Italian Bakery.
