What to Expect: Chili Crawl & Cookoff

This Sunday, November 4 marks the return of the Midtown Crossing Chili Crawl & Cookoff. Many of you will remember the now-annual Mac & Cheese Binge events. Swap the macaroni and cheese for the chili and voila, that’s the Chili Crawl!

Here’s what you have to look forward to:

  • EIGHT (yes, 8!) chili varieties. We’re talking classics to vegan to clams – and everything in between.
  • Want to see the menu? (Thought so!) Click here!
  • All the action is inside the restaurants… That much easier for grabbing a drink to go with your chili (but we’ll get to that soon!)
  • Start and end your Chili Crawl journey anywhere you’d like! The chili is “while supplies last”, so if you see a favorite, start there! Pick up a printed menu (with a voting slip) inside any restaurant.
  • Samplers are $3 each, payable to each restaurant directly. Cash is fastest and easiest.
  • Each restaurant has a featured beer or cocktail to accompany the chili. The drinks are half the experience! Drink prices (and offerings) vary from one restaurant to the next.
  • Did we mention that there are bragging rights on the line? That and a little trophy like the one you got from t-ball back in the day. SO – be sure to vote for the best chili. Printed menus (with a voting slip) can be picked up from any restaurant. Slip your vote in any Chili Crawl labeled box! Winning restaurant will be announced on Monday!

Chili Crawl & Cookoff Fun

In between those eight chilis, you’re going to need a break. (Just saying!) Here are our top recommendations:

  • Stop by some of the Midtown Crossing shops getting in on the action with special fun for “Chili Crawlers”, including:
  • Pick up a ping pong paddle or show off your middle school chess skills with the outdoor games set-up in the west end of Turner Park and right around Thirst Tea. Added bonus: chess pieces and ping pong paddles/balls may be checked out from Thirst Tea for free!
  • Browse the best of Farnam Street:
  • Grab a drink! Looking for a fancy craft cocktail? Head over to PROOF! They open at noon on Sundays!
  • People talk about the colors of New England in the fall… Let’s just say Omaha should be talking about the colors of Turner Park in the fall! A stroll around the park will make room for more CHILI!

One of the most popular questions we get is if the event is family-friendly. While we don’t have any activities specifically for kids, children are welcome! And as much as we love your pups (SO much), they aren’t permitted inside restaurants (per Health Code).

The restaurants are working hard to serve tasty chili to everyone as quickly as possible. Come ready to spend your day criss-crossing Midtown Crossing in search of the best chili!

Now – join the Facebook event already, and we’ll see you Sunday!

P.S. Save the date for the 3rd Annual Mac & Cheese Binge – Saturday, January 26. We’ll share details in late December!
