On October 18th, Alamo Drafthouse and Midtown Crossing in collaboration with Omaha artist Watie White, install a brand-new mural to celebrate Midtown’s iconic Monday Night Movies in Turner Park.
After months of planning, designing and artful execution, the newest contribution from Omaha artist Watie White to the Midtown area is finally going to make its introduction today. Highlighting the iconic Monday Night Movies in Turner Park, this new mural portrays the beautiful backdrop of Turner Park on a Monday Night as people gather to watch a film while infusing iconic film moments and characters that many people will recognize, but many people will discover for the first time.
“Indulging my eager film nerd with Alamo was a wonderful experience, just so much fun. Everything that went into the mural was intentional, thoughtful and full of the love of the culture of enjoying movies.
It’s rare to be as embraced as an artist as the Midtown Crossing community has been to me. Making and installing 3 large murals over the past 5 years in a single community has allowed me to get to play a role in the public feeling of this community, for which I am grateful.” – Watie White
“We knew from the beginning that we didn’t want to rehash what had been done with the poster cases and that wall space from the theater that had been here before. We also knew with that amount of real-estate, we could do something truly special and creative with the blank canvas of that wall. That’s when we reached out to Midtown Crossing about our idea for a mural, which ultimately led to where we are today with the final iteration of the artwork. We couldn’t be more grateful for the care and time Watie put into this project and couldn’t be happier with the continued partnership we have Midtown Crossing and our shared vision for the project.” – Derek Dillon, Creative Director at Alamo Drafthouse Omaha
“We couldn’t be more thrilled with midtown Omaha’s newest art installment – an engaging, lively and artistic piece by one of Omaha’s favorite artists, Watie White. Thanks to the folks at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for this spectacular idea and artist Watie White!” – Molly Skold, Midtown Crossing
As a special promotion to celebrate the new mural artwork outside of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Midtown, the Alamo is holding a special social media contest in conjunction with the new STAR WARS film, THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. If you take a picture with the mural and use the hashtag #MondayNightMural and #AlamoMidtown, you’ll be entered to win two tickets to the opening night of THE RISE OF SKYWALKER (December 19th) as well as a special edition magazine from Birth Movies Death and two exclusive STAR WARS pint glasses from Mondo. The contest promotion runs from October 18th through November 1st at which point a winner will be randomly selected.
