K-9 Kobus

Omaha Police Department
End of Watch: January 23, 2016

“The overriding factor is there is still human life that has to be preserved, and K-9 Kobus gave his life for that.”

Sgt. Steve Worley, Omaha Police Department

K-9 Kobus was shot and killed in January 2016, while attempting to subdue an armed man who had barricaded himself inside his home and fired on Douglas County sheriff’s deputies.

Described as one of the toughest dogs in the unit, the 9-year-old Belgian Malinois had lived at the home of his handler, Officer Matthew McKinney. On duty for six years, Kobus was due to be retired in the coming months. He was the first Omaha police dog killed in the line of duty since the K-9 unit was re-established in 1996.

K-9 SPONSOR  |  K-9 Sponsor Lozier

The retail business looks a lot different today than it did when Lozier began manufacturing store fixtures almost 60 years ago. Back then, Lozier had 25 employees and manufacturing facilities totaling 20,000 square feet. We originated the basics of today’s shelving systems and built our business on our core values of integrity, candor, open-mindedness, and a strong work ethic. Today we’ve grown to over 5.2 million square feet and 2,500 employees. How did we get here? By staying focused on our mission: deliver high quality services and products so reliably that customers overwhelmingly choose us as their fixture supplier.
