A winter filled with cold temperatures and heavy snow did little to slow down construction progress at Midtown Crossing. Sticking to an aggressive schedule, workers only missed one day due to weather conditions, keeping the project on track for a grand opening in the fall of 2009.
"We’re very pleased with the construction progress so far,” said Rob Zimmerman, Senior Construction Manager for the Weitz Company, the general contractor for Midtown Crossing. “Everything is moving along according to schedule and we’re confident the project will be finished on time.”
If you drive by the construction site, you’ll likely notice the “crescent” around Turner Park beginning to take shape, along with the following developments:
- Foundation walls have been set for the underground parking garage that will connect the three condo buildings
- Elevator shafts have been completed for the middle condo building and are approximately 50 percent complete for the other two condo buildings
- Foundation work is nearing completion for the building that will house the new Prairie Life Center
- Foundation walls are now being formed for the new parking garage along 33rd Street
Throughout the month of April, Zimmerman expects crews to begin forming and pouring the first elevated concrete slabs for the underground parking garage, as well as installing underground utility services for Midtown Crossing.
