Expanded & Revitalized
Rooted in Omaha History
You could say it’s the spryest 110 year old on the block. Expanded and revitalized, Omaha’s Turner Park has been transformed into Midtown Crossing’s magnificent seven acre centerpiece. Its future is vibrant; its history bittersweet.
The origins of Turner Park date back to 1900. Charles Turner, a Nebraska pioneer and prominent real estate professional, donated the original land to the city to be used as a public park. (It was a gift of six acres. The park grew with the development of Midtown Crossing.) Turner wanted the park to be known as Curtiss Turner Park in memory of his son, 35 year old Curtiss C. Turner. A prominent civil engineer, Curtiss Turner was killed in a snow slide in 1898 while working in Alaska’s Klondike country at Chilkoot Pass.
Today, the Turner family’s gift to the city, its tribute to a fallen son, is blossoming anew. We are proud of this renewal and eager to invite the community and its visitors to see it for themselves. Pack a picnic, spread out a blanket and enjoy Jazz on the Green in its beautiful new home. Or, spend a leisurely Saturday morning strolling through our upscale, Outdoor Market. A stop on a first date? A backdrop for wedding pictures?
Turner Park is new again. Come down and refresh yourself.
